Power Without Pause — Professional Servicing & Maintenance for All Generator Makes

Since 2005 Generator Boys has kept businesses in Gauteng and nationwide running with planned maintenance, rapid on-site repairs and full-service support for diesel and petrol generators, open and sound-attenuated units, and industrial sets. Based in Wadeville, Germiston, our workshop and mobile teams deliver customs builds, rigging, commissioning and lifecycle servicing — from first bolt to final handover.

Our Servicing & Maintenance Offer

Planned Maintenance

We design manufacturer-aligned maintenance programs for each site based on load, environment and criticality.

Typical schedules:

  • Weekly checks — operational readiness checks for mission-critical sites.
  • Monthly services — running inspections, fluid levels, filters and battery checks.
  • Quarterly — deeper inspections, control panel checks and small consumables replacement.
  • Semi-annual / Annual — full servicing, oil & coolant changes, alternator and engine checks, and detailed reporting.

Each visit includes an inspection report and recommendations to keep your asset reliable and compliant.

Operating & Visual Inspections

We inspect and test while running where possible, checking:

  • Coolant, engine oil and lubricating oil levels
  • Air restriction indicator and air filters
  • Fuel water separator and contamination signs
  • Water-indicating paste test on dipstick
  • Exhaust, belts, hoses and mounts for wear or leaks
  • Control panel, ATS status and source switching behaviour

Visual inspections are designed to catch early failure modes before they escalate.

Diagnostics, Fault Finding & Rapid Repairs

Our technicians follow a rapid diagnostics flow:

  1. Visual check (leaks, damage)
  2. Control panel error code readout and ATS check
  3. Battery voltage & starter tests
  4. Fuel-system checks (water, contamination, air locks)
  5. Start attempt and observation (smoke, vibration, wet-stacking)
  6. Load testing when required to validate performance

For critical faults we offer 24/7 mobile response with on-site repair capability — from fuel-line fixes to alternator and starter replacements.

Load Testing & Performance Validation

Load bank testing validates generator output under realistic conditions. We provide: planned load tests, post-repair load validation and certifications for critical sites.

Fuel & Battery Management

Fuel care: Contaminated or stale fuel is a major failure mode. Our service includes scheduled fuel testing, separator servicing and fuel treatment advice (stabilisers, filtration and supplier checks).

Battery care: Sulphation is a leading cause of failure. We perform regular battery testing, charger checks and cycling procedures to guarantee reliable starts.

Cleaning, Oils & Consumables

  • Oil changes: First oil change after ~20 hours (new units), then around ~100 hours depending on manufacturer guidance and operating environment.
  • Filters: Air, fuel and oil filters inspected and replaced as required.
  • General cleaning: Debris removal, vent cleaning and torque checks on fasteners.

Layup / Mothball Procedures

When generators are taken out of service we apply layup protocols: fuel stabilisation, fogging where appropriate, battery storage and scheduled rotation to avoid seizure.

Heavy-Duty Installation & Rigging

From site surveys and lifting plans to ATS installation and full commissioning — we install generators safely and to code, including civil bases, bunding, exhaust routing and acoustic enclosures.

Custom Builds (Wadeville Workshop)

Our custom-built units are designed for South African conditions — open, weatherproof and sound-attenuated options using proven diesel engines and premium alternators.

Service Contracts & Pricing Models

We offer flexible service contracts to suit single backup units or large fleets:

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I schedule maintenance?

  • Monthly for critical sites, quarterly for general backup, and annual comprehensive service. We recommend site-specific schedules based on environmental conditions and load.

What is wet-stacking?

  • Wet-stacking is the accumulation of unburnt fuel and oil due to extended low-load operation. It reduces efficiency and can harm the exhaust system. Remedy: run the generator under proper load and inspect fuel injection.

When should I call a technician?

  • Repeated failed starts, milky oil or coolant, unexplained breaker trips, abnormal noises or vibrations — call us immediately.

Do you service all brands?

  • Yes. Our technicians are trained on a wide range of engines, alternators and control systems.
